Career information

Graduate of US Naval Academy Annapolis, Md of 1939. Re his Biography: USS Ranger (CV-4) 1939-1940. Then to destroyer duty for WW11, commissioning 3 new "cans" in engineering: USS Livermore (DD429), USS Rodman (DD456), & USS Bache (DD470), becoming exec aboard Bache in 1943. These ships stayed afloat in the No. Atlantic convoys, the Aleutian, New Guinea, & Philippine campaigns. Returned to the Aleutians in early 1945 as C.O., USS Anderson (DD411), a weary veteran of the Pacific battles. Managed to hold the Anderson together for another year with extra steel cables, a welding machine & frequent prayer. 1946,P.G. school, Annapolis for staff communications training. San Diego 1947 handled communications training for ships in refresher training, then to staff COMCAARD IV 3 (1948-1949). From the tremendous carrier for of WW11, we were now (1948) down to 2 operating carriers in the Pacific. Alaska,1949-1951,in charge of navy communications in No.Pacific, very interesting & very exciting duty. Next 2 years in Coronado as communications officer for COMPHIBPAC. In 1953, relieved Jim Dare as C.O., USS D.H. Fox (DD779) in Norfolk. Around the world cruise in charge of a 2 destroyer section for service in Japan/Korea. 1955-1958, in staff communications & planning in Pearl Harbor, HI, CINCPACFLT, with many interesting trips throughout the Western Pacific. Last tour of duty prior to retirement was in Boston, Mass., ONR as Exec Officer & Program Officer for U.S.Naval Reserve Research Program (1960). Was married to Jeanette Kone, passed away 11/16/2003 leaving behind 4 children: Jean Adrianne, John Adrian, Janet Amelia & June Alice (information from his daughter).
