Participated for Australia (rowing) in the Olympic Games in 1948 at London.

16.12.1940 Joined the RANVR 29.09.1941 to 28.06.1942 ASDIC officer on board the hunt class destroyer HMS Fernie 29.06.1942 to 27.08.1942 HMS Elfin submarine school 05.09.1942 to 22.10.1942 HMS Adamant at Kilindini as spare submarine officer 23.10.1942 to 15.12.1942 HMS Wuchang at Colombo as spare submarine officer 17.12.1942 to 14.08.1943 HMS Trusty at Colombo including the second longest allied patrol in WWII of 54 days, 04.01.1943 to 27.02.1943. Also takes part in “Operation Alight” on 04.02.1943 by delivering equipment ashore in a canoe. 15.08.1943 to 12.12.1943 HMS Trident at Colombo obtains Watch-keeping Certificate on 27.10.1943 at Port Said and consequently his promotion to Lieutenant 21.12.1943 to 21.01.1944 HMS Trusty at Wallsend as First Lieutenant 22.01.1944 to 15.08.1944 HMS H34 as First Lieutenant 16.08.1944 to 03.10.1944 HMS/M P511 as Commanding Officer 28.09.1944 to 29.11.1945 HMS Totem at Devonport as First Lieutenant.
