Minesweeper HMS Harrier (J 71)


17 Jan 1942
HMS Harrier (Cdr. E.P. Hinton, DSO, RN) picks up four survivors from the British destroyer HMS Matabele that was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-454 in the Barents Sea in position 69°21'N, 35°27'E. Two of them however soon died.

31 Mar 1942
HMS Harrier (Cdr. E.P. Hinton, DSO, RN) picks up 17 survivors from the American merchant Effingham that was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarines U-456 and U-435 in the Barents Sea in position 70°28'N, 35°44'E.
