Around 0930O/23, HMS Hawkins (Cdr.(Retd.) W.A. Whitaker, RN, flying the flag of Rear-Admiral Sir H. Harwood, KCB, OBE, RN) arrived at San Borombon Bay where she fuelled from the RFA tanker Arndale (8296 GRT, built 1937).

She left again to resume her patrol in the River Plate area around 1330O/23. (1)

Around 1700O/5, HMS Hawkins departed again to resume her patrol in the River Plate focal area. (2)

Around 1000P/27, HMS Hawkins (Cdr.(Retd.) W.A. Whitaker, RN, flying the flag of Rear-Admiral Sir H. Harwood, KCB, OBE, RN) arrived at Rio de Janeiro from patrol. Shortly before entering harbour she met HMS Pretoria Castle (Capt.(Retd.) E.J. Shelly, RN) and some mails and other correspondence were transferred. (2)

Around 1615P/28, HMS Hawkins (Cdr.(Retd.) W.A. Whitaker, RN, flying the flag of Rear-Admiral Sir H. Harwood, KCB, OBE, RN) departed Rio de Janeiro. The next day she is to fuel off Armação dos Búzios, Brazil. (2)

Around 0900O/29, HMS Hawkins (Cdr.(Retd.) W.A. Whitaker, RN, flying the flag of Rear-Admiral Sir H. Harwood, KCB, OBE, RN) dropped anchor near Armação dos Búzios, Brazil where she fuelled from the RFA tanker Arndale (8296 GRT, built 1937).

Around 1400O/29, HMS Hawkins left for patrol in the Rio de Janeiro focal area. (2)

6 Jul 1940 (position 0.00, 0.00)
HMS Hawkins (Cdr.(Retd.) W.A. Whitaker, RN, flying the flag of Rear-Admiral Sir H. Harwood, KCB, OBE, RN) departed the Rio de Janeiro focal area for the River Plate focal area. Before leaving the area she met HMS Pretoria Castle (Capt.(Retd.) E.J. Shelly, RN) and some mails and other correspondence were transferred as this ship had to take over patrol in the Rio de Janeiro focal area. (3)

12 Jul 1940
Around 1245O/12, HMS Hawkins (Cdr.(Retd.) W.A. Whitaker, RN, flying the flag of Rear-Admiral Sir H. Harwood, KCB, OBE, RN) anchored in San Borombon Bay.

Around 2300O/12, the RFA tanker Arndale (8296 GRT, built 1937) also arrived and anchored.

Around 0005O/13, Capt. H.P.K. Oram, RN, then joined HMS Hawkins to take over command. He had taken passage in the Arndale.

The following day, HMS Hawkins then fuelled from the Arndale.

Around 1545O/13, HMS Hawkins departed to resume her patrol in the River Plate area. (3)
