General notes on this boat

11 Oct 1944. A torpedo explosion occurred aboard U-1196 at Königsberg, causing extensive damage that took months to repair. One man was killed and two were wounded.

Men lost from U-boats

Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-1196 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
