Fate

Sank on 14 February 1944 in the Baltic Sea off Gotenhafen, in position 54.32N, 18.36E, after a collision with the German steam merchant Erna. 22 dead and 24 survivors.

Loss position

U-738 was raised on 27 February 1944, taken to Gotenhafen and decommissioned on 3 March 1944. Used as training hulk after November 1944, towed to Neustadt in January 1945 and broken up in 1946 after being captured by British forces in May 1945.
