At 1932 hours, the submarine sighted an enemy formation at a distance of 7,000 metres. She closed the range to 2,000 metres and was about to carry an attack when the enemy ships altered course and went straight toward the submarine which had to go deep in a hurry to avoid being rammed and the opportunity was missed. This was probably Force A (Third Cruiser Squadron with the heavy cruiser HMS Kent, the light cruisers HMS Liverpool and HMS Gloucester escorted by the destroyers HMS Nubian and HMS Mohawk).

The submarine sighted several enemy destroyers at a distance of 500 metres. She attempted to fire her stern torpedoes (one 533mm and one 450mm), but the last destroyer in the formation appeared to rush toward her, she went deep to avoid being depth charged and the opportunity was missed.
