|At 1932 hours, the submarine sighted an enemy formation at a distance of 7,000 metres. She closed the range to 2,000 metres and was about to carry an attack when the enemy ships altered course and went straight toward the submarine which had to go deep in a hurry to avoid being rammed and the opportunity was missed. This was probably Force A (Third Cruiser Squadron with the heavy cruiser HMS Kent, the light cruisers HMS Liverpool and HMS Gloucester escorted by the destroyers HMS Nubian and HMS Mohawk).|
