HMCS Ottawa (Cdr. E.R. Mainguy, RCN) picks up 56 survivors from the British merchant Sulairia that was torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-43 356 nautical miles west of Achill Head in position 53°43'N, 20°10'W.

HMCS Ottawa also picks up 64 survivors from the British merchant Eurymedon that was torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-29 366 nautical miles west of Achill Head in position 53°34'N, 20°23'W.

23 Nov 1940
The Dutch merchant Bussum is torpedoed and sunk of the north-west coast of Ireland in position 55°39'N, 08°58'W by German U-boat U-100. HMCS Ottawa (Cdr. E.R. Mainguy, RCN) picks up 29 survivors.

During 23/24 January 1945, HMCS Uganda (Capt. E.R. Mainguy, OBE, RCN) conducted gunnery exercises off Alexandria. These were followed by RIX (rangefinding and inclination) exercises with HMS Newfoundland (Capt. R.W. Ravenhill, CBE, DSC, RN).

During the night tracking exercises were carried out with HMS Newfoundland.

The following morning, 4" HA gunnery exercises were carried out following which HMCS Uganda returned to Alexandria. (2)

HMCS Uganda (Capt. E.R. Mainguy, OBE, RCN) is fumigated at Esquimalt. The crew was able to board the ship again on 17 August 1945 and she was then taken in hand for refit. (5)
