Notes on event

At 02.26 hours on 17 March 1942 the unescorted Ceiba was hit underneath the bridge by one torpedo from U-124 and sank with a heavy list to port. Six men on a raft were picked up two days later by USS Hambleton (DD 455). Among the dead were wives and children of some crew members.
