Notes on event

At 09.30 hours on 21 June 1943 the Brinkburn (Master Norman Johnsen) in convoy TE-22 was hit by two of three torpedoes from U-73, exploded and sank immediately west of Algiers. When the U-boat later surfaced they found many damaged food cans and two 75mm shells in its transport boxes on the bridge. The master, 21 crew members and seven gunners were lost. One crew member and one gunner were rescued by landing craft and a fishing vessel and landed at Algiers.
