Husband of Elsbeth Dorothy Kulp, of Philadelphia, PA. He was rescued by USS Gleaves after the sinking of USS Buck, but died of wounds on 12 October 1943 and was buried in Italy. After the war his body was returned to the US and buried in Arlington cemetery. His widow remarried and outlived her second husband, when she died on 16 February 2009 her wish to be buried with James were honored and she was buried with him in Arlington as Elsbeth D. Holt.
