Personal information
John Dennis Walter served at the 4 inch guns aboard HMS Tweed and survived with blast injuries and swallowing fuel oil that had just been taken on board. He was picked up by HMS Nene after 6 hours, having watched the other warships initially leave and later return because of U-boats still being in the area. John was then assigned to HMS Hind after two weeks survivors leave.
