Personal information
Son of William Henry and Janet Metcalf, of Grindon, Sunderland, Co. Durham. His brother John Callum was lost when Rowanbank was bombed and sunk by German aircraft on 31 January 1941 and his brother Ernest Gordon perished in the sinking of Silverbeech in March 1943.
