Personal information
Thomas E. Burke was a 1936 graduate of Brighton HS, Brighton, MA, and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1939. He sailed for the United Fruit Company from mid-1939 to late-1947, leaving them with an unlimited Masters License. He and the second officer Roy Sorli helped to save the children of the family Downes who were passengers aboard Heredia.
