Personal information
He was picked up by HMS Lulworth after the sinking of Bennekom and landed at Bathurst on 20 November 1941. All survivors were taken to Freetown aboard the depot ship HMS Alca and Alderamin and eventually returned to the UK aboard Volendam, arriving in Avonmouth on 21 December 1941.
