Notes on event

At 09.03 hours on 31 Oct 1942 the unescorted Empire Guidon (Master Henry Burgess) was torpedoed and sunk by U-504 about 180 miles east-southeast of Durban. One crew member, one gunner and three passengers were lost. The master, 43 crew members and eight gunners were picked up by the Clan Alpine and landed at Port Elizabeth.
