Notes on event

At 08.34 hours on 18 March 1943, U-593 attacked a small convoy near Derna, Cyrenaica and sank two ships, the Dafila and Kaying.

The master, nine crew members and five gunners from the Dafila (Master George Mugford) were picked up by the South African armed whaler HMSAS Southern Maid (T 27) and landed at Derna. 19 crew members and three gunners were lost.
