| Notes on event | On 1 Oct 1943 the unescorted Tahsinia (Master Charles Edward Stewart) was torpedoed and sunk by gunfire by U-532 northeast of the Maldive Islands. The master, 39 crew members and eight gunners were rescued: the master and 24 survivors were picked up by the British steam merchant Nevasa 10 miles west of Alleppey Lighthouse after seven days and landed at Bombay on 11 October. On 6 October, 23 survivors made landfall on Mahdu Atoll, Maldive Islands and were brought to Colombo by an Indian dhow. | ||
