| Notes on event | At 18.48 hours on 26 Jan 1944 the unescorted Surada (Master Ellis Henderson Brady) was hit by two stern torpedoes from U-188 40 miles east-northeast of Socotra Island. The ship broke in two and sank at 19.06 hours. The U-boat surfaced and asked the survivors about any losses and whether they had any provisions such as water. The master, 86 crewmen, nine gunners and seven passengers were picked up the following day by the British motor merchant Darro and landed at Aden on 29 January. | ||
