Under the command of Lieutenant Commander Geoffrey Searle, under the cover of darkness, ML355 picked up 54 servicemen and 14 others from the mouth of Tripiti Gorge on the south coast of western Crete, and landed the party at Mersa Matruh after dawn on 8 May 1943.
