History

Ordered as a Balao-class submarine but the yard was not ready to start construction of this class after completion of her previous contract so she was built as a Gato-class submarine.

USS Golet (Cmdr James Seerley Clark) is most likely sunk by the Japanese guardboat Miya Maru, the Japanese auxiliary submarine chaser Bunzan Maru, and naval aircraft off northern Honshu, Japan in position 41º04'N, 141º31'E. All hands (82) were lost with the ship.
