History

She was launched after the war with Japan had ended and she was not completed. Her construction being suspended on 12 August 1947. When the war in Korea broke out in June 1950 she was rushed into completion and was commissioned on 25 September 1950.

Decommissioned 15 May 1976.
Stricken 25 July 1989.
Sold 26 January 1993 to be broken up for scrap. The Scrapper defaulted and ship was repossessed without having left Navy custody and was resold for scrapping on 29 September 1995 and towed to San Francisco on 1 May 1996.
Later she was moved to Mare Island but the scrap contract was revoked on 1 July 1997.
Later towed to Beaumont, Texas.
On 17 May 2006 Oriskany was sunk as artificial reef south of Pensacola, Florida.
