History

On 8 November 1942 Amphitrite was at Casablanca when Operation Torch (the Allied landings in North Africa) began.
Before she had a chance of getting ready for sea, she was sunk at her moorings in position 33º06'30"N, 07º36'58"W by gunfire from the support group (US battleship Massachusetts, cruisers and destroyers) and air attacks from USN planes flying from the carrier CV.4 Ranger. Raised by the Allies.
Stricken in May 1946.
