HMT Pine (T/Lt. John Hird, RNVR) was torpedoed and sunk on 31 January 1944 by the German motor torpedo boat S 142 in the English Channel south-east of Bognor Regis.
The Commanding officer was wounded. The wreck lies in 22 meter of water in position 50º43'05"N, 00º37'10"W.
