USS PC-546 and USS SC-977 pick up men from the American merchant John S. Copley that was torpedoed and damaged by German U-boat U-73 off Oran, Algeria in position 35°56'N, 00°54'E.
1 Sep 1944
HMS Upstart (Lt. P.C. Chapman, DSC and Bar, RN) departed La Maddalena for Marseilles, France. She made the passage together with the French submarine La Sultane (Lt. Javouhey). They were escorted by USS PC 546 (Lt.(jg) J. O'Shea, USNR) and USS PC 591 (Lt. J.L. Clark, USNR). (1)
