Kptlt. Brans, commander of the boat, brought the emblem with him in memory of his former activities as a member of the 3. Küstenfliegergruppe 706 (coast flying squadron), stationed in Lyst on the island of Sylt. This squadron was later named 3. Küstenfliegergruppe 906, and the Viking ship was their emblem.
