An awarded issued by two southern Germany principalities ruled by a Catholic line of the Hohenzollern family. Prewar awards to Kaiserliche Marine officers that would go on to command U-boats during the war were of the Honor Cross 3rd Class (Ehrenkreuz 3. Klasse). Knight rank shown.
