Career information

During the third patrol of Wahoo, on 26 Jan 1943, Morton sank the Japanese transport Buyo Maru carrying thousands of soldiers. Morton ordered the shipwrecked men to be shot in the water, lifeboats smashed and his boat's propeller to cut through men in the water. He faced no criminal consequences for this action.

The Taiko Maru was raised and returned to service and finally sunk on 14 July 1944 by USS Sand Lance.
