History Completed in October 1911 as British Cayo Romano for Cayo Line Ltd (E. Bigland & Co), London. 1916 renamed Baymano for The Bay SS Co Ltd (Sale & Co), London. 1921 taken over by the French Government and renamed Port de Cherbourg, later that year renamed Malgache for Cie Maritime des Transports Coloniaux, Marseilles. 1937 renamed Rouennais for Société Anonyme de Gérance et d´Armement, Dunkirk. 
Notes on event

On 25 April 1943 the Rouennais in convoy CG-29 struck a mine laid on 2 April by U-455 and sank about 17 miles north of Casablanca. Three survivors were rescued by the British steam merchant Storaa from the same convoy and taken to Gibraltar. The remaining 36 survivors and one body were picked up by the escort USS PC-482 and landed in Casablanca.
