Oblt. Gerhard Conrad was one of the youngest U-boat commanders during WWII when he left for his patrol with U-214 from Brest, France on 9 Sept 1944. He was only 21 years old at the time (Busch & Röll, 1999). He died along with his entire crew when his boat was sunk 5 days later in the English Channel (Niestlé, 1998).
