UC 44 was raised by the Royal Navy in September 1917 and later broken up.
Previously recorded fate
While the where and when of the loss are well understood, new research by Robert Grant shows that UC 44 was lost on her own mine and not a mine laid by UC 42 that had intentionally been left unswept.
