History

U-Flotilla "Saltzwedel"* was founded on 1 Sept 1936 under the command of Fregkpt. Scheer. From June 1940 to June 1941 the flotilla moved to Lorient, France. Its history ended in August 1944 when the last boats left Lorient for Norway.


* Oblt. z. S. Reinhold Saltzwedel was in WWI Commander of UB-10, UC-10, UC-11, UC-21, UC-71 and UB-81. He sank during 22 patrols 111 ships with a total of 170,526 tons. He died on 2 Dec, 1917, when his UB-81 was sunk by a mine in the English Channel.
